On May 1st, 2025, Burundians joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Workers’ Day. Here in Burundi, this day was celebrated under the national theme: “Let’s increase production with the vision of Burundi emerging country by 2040, developed country by 2060.”
Based on this national theme, the company “Fertilisant Organo Minervaux Industries” FOMI, did not miss the celebration of the day under the theme: “Let’s use well the fertilizers and agricultural lime manufactured by FOMI, by increasing production in order to reach the emerging Burundi in 2040, and developed in 2060”.
At the national level, the festivities of this day took place at the INTWARI stadium in Bujumbura mayership . They were characterized by many ceremonies starting with a very long parade of workers from different sectors.
The employees of the FOMI company who had represented the others in these ceremonies, were marked by immense joy as could be read on their faces, to show that the FOMI company is committed to implementing the vision has set itself to support farmers to increase agricultural production, by providing them with extraordinary fertilizers, in increasing production, restoring soil fertility and protecting the environment, so that Burundi can achieve its vision through agriculture.
In his speech on the occasion, the Head of State, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, wished all workers a happy day, reminded the burundians to always respect working hours and congratulated the employers who have already responded to the call to insure their employees.
He hence ended by awarding prizes to workers who have distinguished themselves in their fields of work, with the aim of encouraging others to take them as an example.
The employees of the FOMI company ended this day at the headquarters of the company, located in Maramvya of the Mutimbuzi commune by sharing a drink with the employees of the other subsidiaries of ITRACOM HOLDING, which are: ITRACOM in charge of transport, FOMI Burundi which manufactures organo-mineral fertilizers here in BURUNDI, ITRACOM FERTILIZERS which manufactures organo-mineral fertilizers in Tanzania, INKINZO insurance, the BCAB farmers’ bank, ITRAPACK which manufactures biodegradable packaging, as well as ITRASAGRI which works in the sector of multiplication of selected seeds. It was also an opportunity to share the joy with the boss of ITRACOM holding MR Adrien NTIGACIKA.
It should be noted that this May Day is the beginning of the 2025-2026 budget year at FOMI.
