On June 16, 2017, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Tourism visited the FOMI (Organo-Mineral Fertilizer Industry) company located in Maramvya, Mutimbuzi Commune.
The purpose of this visit was to assess the progress of the construction activities at this company, which had benefited from an exemption on construction materials.
In less than a year, the Minister commended the progress of the construction work and encouraged the company’s contractor for fulfilling all the commitments made in the application for the exemption.
She also emphasized that the production of these fertilizers will not only benefit Burundi but also countries in the sub-region and will contribute to job creation and the fight against unemployment.
It should be noted that this company plans to begin its work in August and intends to hire more than 500 people, and has the machines that will produce up to 120,000 tons of fertilizer each year.
