The FOMI Company received on Monday, March 17th 2025 a delegation of students of Higher School of Command and Headquarter, including students from countries of East African Community, who were coming to make a Study Tour at the FOMI Company.
The Deputy General Manager of FOMI MANYANGE Hermenegilde who welcomed them, on behalf of the General Director, briefly presented them the company and indicated that FOMI is actually on a satisfied level and contributes a lot to the development of the country. He then invited the head of the delegation to introduce his team.
In his presentation, the Director of Research Syldie BIZIMANA PhD, focused on FOMI society presentation the genesis, the importance of FOMI’s fertilizers, the production process and quality as well as the different types of fertilizers manufactured by the company among which FOMI Imbura, fomi Bagara, Fomi Totahaza and agricultural lime. He also mentioned the value addition of Fomi fertilizers to agricultural production enhancement, sustainable agricultural and the country development.
Further more, he indicated that the company has enough capacity to produce any types of fertilizers in accordance to the end user requirements.
Some of the questions raised by the students were related to know the stategies used by the Company to convince farmers who are doubtful of the quality of FOMI products since some people are used to say that goods made in Burundi are usually not of good quality.
The Director of research indicated that after publishing the research results on of the strategies to convince them is the use of demonstration fields where the total plots is divided in two parts. In on of the two parts of field, Fomi fertilizers are applied while in the other part the classical/mineral fertilizers are applied on the same crop. At the harvest time farmers are invited in an open day event to let them appreciate, conclude and do testimonie on what they hawe seen. The testimony confirm that the Fomi fertilizers perform well even more than the mineral fertilizers when plant yield is concerned. In addition to ecological value of the fertilizer by improving soil health, restoring soil fertility and protect the environment. shortly Fomi fertilizers match the principal of sustainable agricultural on the five over six component of this concept. He did not leave out to mention that Fomi products are internationally certified and there for beneficiate a world wide acceptance.
The students positively appreciate the presentation of relevance quality and seized the opportunity to give a present to the Deputy General Manager for their hospitality.
