These are Congolese students from Uvira in the DRC studying at Notre Dame de Tanganyika University in the Faculty of Agronomy. They are delighted with the welcome they received from the employees of the Organo-Mineral Fertilizer Industry FOMI in general, and from the supervisors who guided them during their internship in particular.
They reported that they had the opportunity to visit the FOMI factory and observe how the organic and mineral fertilizers are blended. Miriam Tirsa, one of the students, indicated that the training she received during her internships was beneficial, as she learned, in particular, the application rates of FOMI organo-mineral fertilizers for different crops and the advantages of these fertilizers. She thanked those who contributed to the success of these internships.
Another student who spoke after the visit was Mukamba Longye Aimable. He is also from the Faculty of Agronomy at Notre Dame University of Tanganyika. He stated that the choice to do the internships at the FOMI factory was not accidental. “It was because we heard that it is the only factory in the region capable of producing organo-mineral fertilizers. And thanks to FOMI fertilizers, agricultural production increases and the soil becomes arable,” he explained. Mukamba Longye Aimable is asking Congolese authorities to collaborate with FOMI to establish this factory in the DRC and is requesting that FOMI officials provide further opportunities for students to learn more about this training.
You should know that the Organo-Mineral Fertilizers Industry (FOMI) continues to offer internships to students from the University of Burundi, private higher education institutions, and universities in the sub-region. This is also in response to the call from the country’s authorities, particularly that of the Head of State, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, who, during the inauguration of the FOMI factory expansion in 2020, invited factory officials to contribute to the training of students in the field.
