
The company Fertilisants Organo Minerals Industries FOMI received on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 EWAN WHEELER, representative of a company called ACRE AFRICA, an insurance company in the agricultural sector based in Kenya. In his welcome speech, the Director General of FOMI Simon Ntirampeba presented the company and its works. As the General Manager said, FOMI is reaching a satisfactory stage in the production of fertilizers in sufficient quantities and distributing them to farmers at the appropriate time. The FOMI Company contributes to the development of the country because it supports the agricultural sector which is the basis of the country’s development.
As he continued to say, fertilizers are the key to life all over the world because reports show that the whole world uses more than 200,000,000 tons of fertilizers per year, and Burundi is not an island to be exempted from this need for fertilizer use.
“In the past five years alone, since the birth of the FOMI Company, agricultural production has increased by more than 45% thanks to FOMI fertilizers”, he added.
“FOMI’s fertilizers are made from organic fertilizers and chemical fertilizers, with the aim of respecting the environment. The company continues to work to satisfy all farmers, and it is in the process of expanding its technology to other countries in the region such as Tanzania”, he said.
“However, while there is no shortage of challenges, the company works well with the government to find solutions”,he added.
The General Director of the FOMI Company also told him about the life of the company’s employees at the service. As he said, the company employs more than 3000 employees who are well paid, insured, fed and moved in the company buses to places of service, and the majority of them have employment contracts.

He said that in agreement with governments, the Society works with farmers’ associations and seed multipliers who wish to do so, to insure them at the time of disasters due to climate change.
