Employees of the company producing Organo-mineral fertilizers FOMI visited the Ngozi commune in the Butanyerera province on May 18, 2026. They visited the fields of NIYONZIMA Félix, a seed multiplier, located on Gitasi hill in the Mwumba area. In addition to potato seeds, NIYONZIMA Félix also multiplies corn and bean seeds. Regarding corn, he reports that he is multiplying corn seeds in a field covering an area of 5 hectares. This farmer states that he planted seeds from ISABU and is expecting about 15 tons of corn. He explains that this good harvest results from good agricultural practices; agricultural lime used to combat soil acidity and FOMI fertilizers at the time of sowing. About FOMI fertilizers, Félix praises them: ‘they restore soil fertility and increase agricultural production.’
He points out having a major challenge; he has a large area that he cultivates and needs a large quantity of FOMI fertilizers for this purpose, and sometimes receives a quantity lower than requested.
He also indicates that the number of farmers has increased, which impacts the high demand for fertilizers. He asks the government to help FOMI so that it can deliver the fertilizers to farmers on time because the observation so far has been that when fertilizers are delivered to farmers on time, production is consequently increased.
