To this end, the Organo-Mineral Fertilizers Industries (FOMI) was created through a private initiative. In that contextual framework, a fertilizer experimental study was conducted with FOMI Imbura and FOMI Totahaza on a maize (Zea mays L.) crop during three growing seasons (2020A, 2021A et 2022A), by ISABU, FOMI company, in collaboration with the Faculty of Agronomy and Bio- Engineering of the University of Burundi (FABI/UB).

The study aim was to determine the most performing FOMI fertilizer application rate on maize crop in Burundi. During the first two growing seasons 2020A and 2021A, experimental fields were installed in six sites: Mparambo (Cibitoke) and Bukemba (Rutana) in low altitude agro-ecological zone; Zege (Gitega) and Karusi in middle altitude agro-ecological zone and Gisozi (Mwaro) and Mahwa (Gitega) in high altitude zone. At the third growing season 2022A, experimental sites of Mparambo and Zege were judged unfit and were left behind for different reasons. Tested varieties were MM3 in Mparambo, Mugamba in Gisozi and Mahwa, Longe 4 in Bukemba, together with ZM 605 in Karusi and Zege. In total, 11 application rates of FOMI fertilizers were evaluated : T0=traditional practice (control) ; T1=45-60-30 (recommended application fertilizer rate) ; T2=270 kg FOMI Imbura ; T3= 270 kg FOMI Imbura+ 100 kg Totahaza ; T4=270 kg FOMI Imbura+ (50 kg + 50 kg) FOMI Totahaza ; T5= 180 kg FOMI Imbura

+ 67 kg FOMI Totahaza ; T6=180 kg FOMI Imbura + (33 kg + 34 kg) FOMI Totahaza ; T7= 150 kg FOMI Imbura + 75 kg FOMI Totahaza ; T8=150 kg FOMI Imbura + (37 kg + 38 kg) FOMI Totahaza ; T9= 90 kg FOMI Imbura + 33 kg FOMI Totahaza ; T10=90 kg FOMI Imbura

+ (16 kg+17 kg) FOMI Totahaza. In all treatments, lime was applied at 750 kg/ha two weeks before sowing.

At the conclusion of the experiments, and across the three growing seasons, obtained results indicated the following findings : highest performance of T5 [180 kg FOMI Imbura + 67 kg FOMI Totahaza] in high altitude agro-ecological zone (Gisozi and Mahwa), best yields for treatment T8 [150 kg FOMI Imbura + (37 kg + 38 kg) FOMI Totahaza] in middle altitude agro-ecological zone (Zege et Karusi), while treatment T9 [T9= 90 kg FOMI Imbura + 33 kg FOMI Totahaza] has given better yield than the other treatments in low altitude agro- ecological zone (Mparambo and Bukemba). In light of these findings, it is recommended to apply area-specific fertilizer rates for maize in Burundi, i.e.:

①180 kg FOMI Imbura+ 67 kg FOMI Totahaza in high altitude agro- ecological zone;

② 150 kg FOMI Imbura + (75 kg) FOMI Totahaza in midddle altitude

agro-ecological zone;

③ 90 kg FOMI Imbura + 33 kg FOMI Totahaza in low altitude agro- ecological zone.
